The 2018 vintage was the warmest and driest on record since grape growing begun in earnest in England in the 1970’s. The previous year had also seen lots of sun meaning that we had a bumper harvest of ripe, clean and aromatic grapes in 2018.
The grapes were fermented separately in eight small lots with a small portion (just under 10 % of the total blend) being in neutral oak barrels for 6 months. The use of numerous small lots with Bacchus is to encourage the complexity of the grape to shine through. Bacchus can produce a wide range of styles depending on many factors such as the ripeness of the grapes and how they are used in the winery.
This is a vibrant yet delicate Bacchus with a complex nose that leans towards a Sancerre style, full of pithy lime, wet stones and light spice. On the palate the wine is crisp and refreshing with a pleasing texture and saline structure leading to a citrus finish.
This wine demonstrates that Bacchus can be complex, even austere in its youth and a fantastic accompaniment to foods, as well as being very enjoyable on its own or as an aperitif.
No fining agents have been used so the wine is vegan friendly and gluten free.
